I am a sucker for Japanese food and I judge critically having a wonderful Japanese sister-in-law who could cook anything and everything better than most restaurants out there. With ramen slowly becoming a hit here in Vancouver we’ve got ramen houses like Benkei, Menya, and Kintaro etc.. Everyone has been telling me about this place and I’ve been a bit skeptical trying it out but eventually had the opportunity to when a friend invited me for lunch. I got the lunch special, which includes all of the above for just $15.00 CAD. Now I know it seems pricey for lunch per person but if you consider the quality and flavor put in their food and the quantity you get overall, I think it’s rather inexpensive. The food came fast and fresh. The servers were accommodating and friendly. If you’re a Japanese food fanatic like I am then I definitely recommend it for you.

Top: Creamy Caramel Rooibos tea
Bottom: Me and a friend getting all giddy over our first time high tea experience. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of the tiers of bite-sized morsels of food so this picture will have to suffice.

It was my friend, Angela’s birthday and she decided to have a a little tea party. This was my first time and hence my high-tea cherry was popped. I didn’t know what to expect, really. I always saw pictures of friends doing high-tea and thinking how ridiculous it was to have to spend on getting tea and being served sandwiches and petit fours so small it made me feel like a fat ass giant. I remember joking around with another friend of mine on how we were going to meet at the pizza parlour after that. Boy was I wrong! The tea was steeped to perfection making every sip a heavenly experience. The sandwiches, although cut into small portions amounted up to the equivalency of two big sandwiches, and we had scones, pound cake and three different petit gateaus to devour. I was stuffed by the end of it… I may have gotten the itis, wanting to sleep all of a sudden. It was an amazing experience to act, dine and wine like old, fancy English ladies. I would recommend it for a nice treat with your closest girl friends. Boy friends allowed only if they are down to get a little feminine and raise a pinky up.
